Exciting Colors & a Big Ass Table

When we purchased our house in 2015 I had massive interior design plans for it. Big dreams of decor, remodels and much to my husband’s dismay, lots and lots of DIYing. I wanted to started with out dining room right away.

4 months in and buys himself some more time by popping that big question. Yep, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Y’all it was the sweetest thing ever.

But that meant instead of jumping into my DIYing plans, I launched head first into wedding planning. We tied the knot in March of 2017.

Now it’s almost 3 years later and I’m working on getting my house decorated how I want. Paint colors, decor and furniture is what has been occupying some of my time. Here is what I was starting with:

Then it all started with a table

After all, that wedding planning was finally over, I was kinda burnt out. So I gave myself a few months to get started. Then the itch to change it up came back.

I started with the all too small dining room table that we had. It was perfect for our two-bedroom apartment. But in our awkwardly shaped squarish dining room, it was almost swallowed by all the space.

So if you haven’t been around here long, you probably didn’t know this but Joanna Gaines is my spirit animal. I love all things farmhouse. If I had complete control I’d have shiplap in every room and light, bright colors everywhere.

Then the first time I saw my friend Danielle’s farmhouse table, I practically drooled all over it.

Her husband Rick custom built the table for her. This project is what sparked their love of furniture projects and started the beginning of their boutique online store, Gypsy Trading Co.

This husband and wife team run an awesome operation. Danielle has a brilliant eye for design and has a tremendous gift of breathing new, beautiful life into older pieces of furniture. & Rick is behind building the custom furniture like the farmhouse tables. They also do customized shirts, cups, and a lot of unique awesome things. Check them out over here. All of their creations make great gifts.

After months of talking about getting a bigger table, we finally compromised with the help of our friends over at the Gypsy Trading Co. Traditionally farmhouse tables are a rectangle and long. But for our dining room, it wouldn’t fit. So we had Rick build us a square one.

I have to admit; I wasn’t crazy about the ideal at first. But they nailed it and it is one of the most beautiful pieces of furniture I have ever owned.

We picked up some chairs from a local furniture store near our house first. & our friends are so awesome they even perfectly matched the table to the chairs we bought for it.

Next came the paint

We had already decided that we hated the crap-colored wall that we’d lived with for the past 2 years in our dining room.

So when we got Rick & Danielle to build our table, we decided it was time to finally change that color. We wanted it to get it done before we had to move that big thing in.

My Pinterest had paint pins on it for weeks leading up to this so I had a pretty good idea of what color I wanted.

I measured the dining room to make sure I got enough paint for it. Then I headed off to Lowe’s.

Sea Salt is the color I fell in love with on Pinterest.

Although it looks more blue than green to me. What do you think?

Then came the entryway

We got the table from across town from Gypsy Trading Co. headquarters to our house without incident in the back of Andrew’s truck.

So before too long I was taking a long, hard look at the empty space between my front door and dining room. It was bare and I just knew it needed some type of table. So I took to Pinterest and found all kinds of lovely foyer tables.

After getting some inspiration I started my hunt in the stores. I checked Target, Home Goods, and TJ Maxx. Then I found what I thought was the perfect table for the spot at the At Home Store online.

We have one local so I went in and walked the aisles several times searching high and low. After 2 trips with no luck, I caved and tracked down a stocker to ask about the table. He punched in the item number on my phone.

There wasn’t one in stock and it didn’t seem like they carried them at this store. I was so bummed.

Reluctantly I started the online search again. I was ready to give up hope after several more trips to Target and Hobby Lobby. Then while mindlessly scrolling through Kirkland’s website, I found this beauty.

Now I love a deal so I waited and waited for it to go on sale. & after about 3 weeks of checking non-stop every day, it hit 30% off.

It absolutely complemented the color we’d painted the dining room so it seemed meant to be.

After I picked it up, it sat on my dining room floor for about 2 weeks before I finally put it together. This was the first time I put a piece of furniture together all by myself.

Had to make sure it was level.

Decorate like a Pro

I picked up the Foyer table in late August. As soon as September 1st hit, I broke out all of my “Happy Fall Y’all” decor. Most of the items I found were from Kirkland’s, some from Hobby Lobby. & the wreath came from Amazon!

My favorite thing is the brown monogrammed pumpkin. Isn’t it just the cutest?

I changed out the decor after the fall holidays past. I’m currently on the hunt for summery items to put up.

Collage wall

Y’all. I have been trying to figure out the perfect place to put a collage wall in my house for over 2 years. When I started to work on this room it literally hit me.

The wall by the front door! It’s really like a half wall so it’s not too big for the collage wall.

So, of course, I headed to Hobby Lobby when they’re wall decor was 50% off! I got a couple things from Kirkland’s too.

I laid them out on my big table before I started hanging them to make sure they’d fit correctly.

Then I placed them up against the wall and put painters tape up to see where I needed to put the command stickers.

I used these to hang everything. No holes!

I got to hanging everything. Andrew helped a lot with this because I apparently hang things crocked.

I put our wedding photos in ones with picture frames. Excuse the fake people in my family photos. I ordered the wrong size photos by accident.

One last wall

I still have this one last wall to go.

I have plans for it and have even bought some pieces for it. Just needing to carve out the time to complete it.

I’ll update you guys when I get it finished.
